Ms. James was a dynamo - a cheerleader and honor student. She was a professional artist who put her brushes aside to design four homes for her family as they moved throughout the country. She was involved in ballet, art, poetry and book clubs. At Northwestern University she was a Kappa Kappa Gamma. During her time here she was active with the Tampa Museum of Art.

She met her husband of 55 years, Charles B. James II, when they were 14 years old. He and their three children, Mac, Laurie and Chuck survive her. Aloha to Marcia James.
She was loved and will be missed.

Janet Marion Spencer Kirby MacMichael, 82, passed away peacefully June 29, 2011 at Westminster Oaks Retirement Center in Tallahassee, FL. She was born in Minnesota in 1927 and had lived in Tallahassee since 2005. She graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Journalism in 1945. She married Donald R. Kirby, Jr. (deceased) in 1944 and together they raised four children, living most of that time in Clearwater, Florida. During that time, Janet wrote for the Clearwater Sun newspaper, contributed numerous articles to regional magazines, and wrote a book, Giant Steps about the history of Morton Plant Hospital. Janet volunteered at the Clearwater Marine Science Center for almost ten years and was an avid sailor and a member of the "Windlasses" Sailing Club.
Janet was interested in birds and was involved in the research being done at the Cornell Ornithology Lab in New York. in 1990 Janet married Ethan MacMichael and after he passed away in 1992, Janet divided her time between Clearwater Beach, FL., writing a travel book about the Florida panhandle and Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, visiting her extended family, build a log cabin and renovating a cottage on the cliffs of Port Morien, often accompanied by her dear friend, Richard Coton. Janet is survived by her four children, Michael Kirby, Susan Peacock, Ben Kirby and Barbara Eschbaugh. Her grandchildren, Marley, Shannon, Grant, Donny, and Arielle, and 2 great grandchildren. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions maybe made to the Cornell Ornithology Lab,
New York, NY.
A memorial service will be held at a later date, Bevis Funeral Home in Tallahassee(850)385-2193 is in charge of the arrangements.
